B2 Listening The Battle Of Hastings

In this post I would like my students to learn a little history of the country where the English language originally came from. It’s true that the coursebook mentions the Battle of Hastings, but I thought that it would also be a great opportunity to do a listening with this video by the BBC.

For this activity, first you will have to learn some of the words that are going to come up in the video, which you have on the word cloud below. After looking up the words, check to see if you know what they mean by doing the flipping card quiz and if that’s okay, you can move on to the listening activity.

As this activity will also serve the purpose to practise passive structures, you will also find a-fill-in-the gap activity based on the information from the video.
