A lot of adjectives are formed by adding a -y to a noun. Some examples of this are salt >salty and spice > spicy. Sometimes the changes are larger like in the word hunger > hungry. But not all words that end in -y are adjectives formed from a noun, because on some occasions we could be talking about an adjective that comes from a verb like the word sticky, which does not come from the noun stick (a small piece of wood), but rather from the verb with the same form. We could even claim that the name for the sticky papers that you leave around the place with notes on, got the name from the adjective with the same form.
