European cities have lit up their Christmas lights, and everybody is getting into the Christmas spirit, hustling and bustling around, meeting up and doing Xmas shopping. As a teacher, I obviously feel enthusiastic about finding something that we can talk about in our classes, but at the same time, I can’t bring myself to ignore that some people experience terrible loneliness during these seasonal holidays. That’s why, when I watched the hilarious video that I’m posting today, I could not keep myself from using it as a thought-provoking lesson that hopefully will be an eye-opener to the social issue of feeling isolated and lonely.
As an update to this post (16th December) I’m uploading a lesson plan that I plan to do with my groups, but if you just wish to revise or whatever, just scroll down.
In the first part of this post, you have a word formation activity as an introduction to this topic.
As for the second activity in this post, you have a short video from Omeletto that explores this subject, with a twist that will leave you rolling around in laughter.
Third, I will ask my students to explain what actually happened in the short – I might even stop it just before the end and let my students try to predict the final outcome.
As for a fourth activity, there’s a short speaking video that I’ve created, which will hopefully spark some nice conversations about celebrating Christmas and family bonding.
Let me know what you think.
Merry Christmas

So glad you love this little lesson plan, Raquel!! Many thanks and Merry, Merry Christmas to you.
Love it! Thank you so much.
I’m using the word formation and the short film in my next lessons.
Happy holidays!
