Sometimes a small idea grows into something unexpected.
What started as a short video has now become a full storybook with audio, illustrations, and a mediation activity for my A2s.
Let me introduce you to The Lonely Snowman — a gentle winter tale about loneliness, hope, and friendship, and a quiet reminder of what Christmas should really bring.
How to Use This Resource
1️⃣ Read & Listen to the Storybook
Start by sharing the flipbook with your students.
They can read the story, look at the illustrations, and listen to the audio one page at a time.
This helps them understand the characters, the sequence of events, and the emotions behind the story.
2️⃣ Watch the Video
After reading the story, show your students the original video.
Watching it after the story helps them make connections between the visuals and the narrative.
3️⃣ Reflect & Discuss
Ask a few simple questions to help students think about the meaning of the story:
- Why is the snowman lonely at the beginning?
- How does he feel when he sees the clouds?
- What changes the next morning?
- What do you think the story says about Christmas?
- Which part made you feel something? Why?
This step is meant to be light, emotional, and accessible — no grammar analysis, just personal reactions.
4️⃣ Mediation Task
Finally, students complete the mediation activity.
They read a “classmate’s” version of the story (with some mistakes) and rewrite the correct story in their own words.
This helps them practise:
- expressing meaning
- using simple past
- linking ideas with and, but, so, because
- “repairing” misunderstandings — a key mediation skill
